homeless

April 19,2008. 10:30 A.M.

A fire broke out in one of the houses near the city public market, which is just across our office. Due to the dryness and hotness of the weather and the strong winds, the fire spread out quickly in opposite directions, turning about 200 houses, mostly made of wood and nypa, into ashes in just minutes.
With the rising prices of basic commodities, this tragedy would place more burden for the homeless families left by the fire.

I happened to take some pictures because our office is at the third floor of the building just across the street.

I think that's a squatters' area. Nowadays, the wisest thing for the lot owner could do is to burn those houses. It just irritates me when I hear squatters demanding for so many things - relocation lots, relocation fees or even thinking that they own the place while they haven't considered the years that they've used the land all for free not to mention depreciating its value for so many wastes they've thrown to that area while the owner has been constantly paying for the real estate tax without taking advantage of his property.

I bet the day after the incident, it has been securely fenced and a big "NO TRESPASSING" sign has been posted around it.

we were thinking too that it was a planned incident to drive away the squatters...

but there was no fence and a "No Trespassing" sign posted in the area since the fire..the residents seem to have been very attached to the place that they are now coming back and are rebuilding their houses..hehe..
