Coral Graffiti

An e-mail was forwarded to me by a marine bio bud with this picture.

I can’t believe my eyes when I saw it. Graffiti on a coral and under the water too!
Has high technology already influenced even the mere act of vandalism?
We are used to see graffiti on the walls, restrooms, school desks, billboards or street signage, But words scribbled on a coral? The possibility didn’t occur to me until now.

What could be other grave reason aside from the common boredom, anger, revenge, defiance and alliance that caused the culprit to degrade marine life such as the coral? But no matter how grave the reason is, vandalism is still a crime and the one responsible must be punished.

The e-mail says the “scene of the crime” is in Anilao. However, he still needs to confirm if the picture is really true. Whether this is real or not, we must take a stand to nip in the bud this additional threat to our marine environment.
